Castro Theater

Castro Theater

The Castro Theater is an amazing treasure. This is a front shot and there are others of inside and out coming soon. The marquis was overhauled for the Sean Penn movie, Milk, the Hollywood historical piece about Harvey Milk, the “Mayor” of the Castro District.

Foggy Agapanthus

Foggy Agapanthus

Diamond Heights is near Twin Peaks and gets as much fog, even when the day is lovely downtown. I loved living up there, but spent more time downtown; so I moved to the SOMA area. I miss the fog … a lot.

Dine and Danceware

Dine and Danceware

I love working with reflections, but they don’t come up as often as I like. This one is on Mission Street between 2nd and 3rd. Dine is a restaurant that’s no longer opened. It’s now Fluid, a private club, also listed here. Here’s the link to it (and another version of this shot, which is one of the rare photos I’ve altered: http://sanfranciscophotos.net/?s=fluid

Twisted Transamerica Building

Twisted Transamerica Building

I was walking down Broadway, near Battery Street and noticed the reflection of the Transamerica Building in the mirrored window of a generic building on the street.

City Hall Framed for Hanging

City Hall Framed

This is one of those shots that just said, “Shoot me” as I was walking down the street. Silly, but fun.

Bay Bridge into San Francisco

Bay Bridge

To get this shot is a bit of a pain, but so worthwhile. I love this view and have more shots from here and I’ll keep going back. The next post is at night, which offers a completely different ambiance.

San Francisco Downtown

Downtown San Francisco

This shot just had to be here, even though it’s nothing super special. I love going to Twin Peaks to see this view in all types of weather. It never gets boring and is often overlooked by tourists and locals both. Try a stormy day, just for fun. The wind can practically blow the door off the car and the wet fog will drench you in no time at all. Just don’t get blown off the sidewalk.

View from the 39th Floor

I love shooting photos from the 39th Floor bar and lounge, which is on the top floor of the Marriott Hotel on Fourth Street, between Market and Mission Streets. Shooting at different times of day yields unique opportunities to capture San Francisco’s best. Some days, fog smashes against the floor-to-ceiling windows on the West side. Facing the East, you’ll see the Bay Bridge and some unique angles of buildings between the bar and the water. It’s all good.

This is another morning shot of the Bay Bridge, but though a window on the Embercadero.
